Making it on Your Own
The journey to a healthier lifestyle won’t end after your Cre8 a New You class. Lessons learned and strategies developed during your time in the class will continue to help you make healthy choices in the future. No matter what changes you’re trying to make, self-assessment is always important. Take some time to review your progress, recognize challenges, make note of lessons learned and plan for the future based on these observations.
Active participation in the Cre8 a New You program teaches you a great deal about your eating and activity habits and provides you with many strategies for making healthier choices. But when you’re no longer participating in the group, you will have to apply these lessons on your own. Remember to focus on long-term objectives, continue to move away from a dieting mindset and recognize that building a healthy lifestyle is a journey, not a destination. Always look at the big picture and be flexible, learning and adjusting your behaviors as you come up against challenges or make progress toward your goals.
In order to continue along the path to a healthier, more energized life, you will need to remember that the Cre8 a New You program was not a “diet” you can now go off. Your lifestyle will need to continue to incorporate healthy choices if you want to maintain your progress and continue to see changes in your health and weight. Difficult or indulgent days should not ruin the progress that you’ve made. Each new day, meal or snack is an opportunity to make healthy choices. The more healthy choices are made, the healthier you will become. Keep exercising and increase the challenge as you become more physically fit. Focus on the positive changes in your health.
How you organize your life and set your priorities will determine how successful you will be in the future. In order to continue making progress you will need to set yourself up for continued success. You may need to reorganize and adapt your lifestyle and routines in order to make them more conducive to a healthy lifestyle.
This week, come up with some strategies for both home and work that will help you maintain a healthy lifestyle beyond Cre8 a New You. These strategies may include changing your grocery shopping behaviors, reorganizing your cabinet and pantry, or setting up a small fitness area in your home.
